The University of Peru is situated in the heart of Lima the capital city of Peru.  If you are an overseas student considering applying to the University of Peru or coming to Lima for the first time there is some practical information that you will need to know before you arrive.

Lima is a large bustling metropolis with a population of about 7.5 million people. Lima is a very warm and welcoming city and the pace of life here tends to be much slower than many other South American cities.  The local people are without doubt some of the friendliest that you will encounter anywhere with a calmer steadier mien than many South Americans.

The climate in Lima is mild throughout the majority of the year and it is very rare for it to rain in the city.  Summer temperatures average between 16-18c and it is only a few degrees cooler in the winter months.  The main feature of Lima’s weather is the Garua- a mist which regularly settles over the city in the months between May and October.

There are several types of public transport in Lima making it an easy city to get around as well as thousands of public and private taxis for hire.  However always make sure that you negotiate the fare before you get into a taxi.

Although the crime rate in Lima is much lower than in many other South American countries it is still sensible to take some precautions.
